As a convenience to our clients, we created this document to direct clients to various Nebraska DMV resources which clients may find helpful.
Following these links will allow you to check on the status of your Nebraska driver’s license, locate a company to install an ignition interlock device in your vehicle, and download the ignition interlock driving permit application.
Remember, the ignition interlock driving permit is a permit which allows you to drive with an ignition interlock device in your vehicle. You do not need a permit to have the device installed in your vehicle.
How to Get an Ignition Interlock Driving Permit in Nebraska
First, have the device installed in your vehicle. Next, send proof of installation of the device to the DMV along with the completed interlock driving permit application.
Once you are eligible for the interlock driving permit, (which in most cases will not be until your temporary license expires), the DMV will send you a letter authorizing you to go to a DMV testing facility to obtain the interlock driving permit.
Additionally, your ignition interlock driving permit will be valid for a period of 6 months from the date it is issued. If your regular license is suspended for longer than 6 months, you will need to renew your ignition interlock driving permit when it expires.
